The 2013-14 Indoor Race Season
The indoor racing season is well under way now. December 7 saw the British IRC take place at Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff. You can find full results at therowingcompany.com/birc/results. The most notable row at the championship saw Graham Benton break the 40-49 Hwt world record with a time of 5:52.4.
In the New Year, the big races start to come thick and fast. There’s the Concept2 Euro Open in Copenhagen on January 25. This will see a number of top rowers, including Henrik Stephansen, the fastest lightweight ever, and the only sub-75 kg rower to go under six minutes for 2000m.
On March 2, there’s the English IRC. Held at the fantastic venue of the Manchester Velodrome, this promises to be a great event. For more information on this race, check out our Race Calendar.
The centrepiece of the indoor race season, however, is always the World IRC in Boston. This year the race is held on February 16, once again at the Agganis Arena, and entry is now open.
If you want to take part, it’s possible for British competitors to enter for free on the Race Registration website. Make sure you fill in your team as “Team GB” and choose “Pay By Mailing Us A Check” as the payment option. Once you’ve done that, please send an email to racing@concept2.co.uk to let us know you’ve entered, and we’ll sort out payment for you as well as make sure you receive any updates relating to the British team.
If you’re looking for accommodation, go to concept2.com/world-irc for a list of the official hotels and how you can get the discount on offer to competitors.
If you have any questions about anything to do with indoor racing, or if you’re running an event you’d like to appear on the calendar, send us an email at racing@concept2.co.uk.
