Club Programming: Join the 2023 SkiErg Sprints
Looking for interesting goals and training ideas for October and early November?
The annual SkiErg World Sprints will be held November 9–12, 2023. Make it a training goal and plan to get your members excited to participate! It’s easy to take part, and a great chance to discover your personal best and see where you stand up against others around the world!
Just what are the SkiErg World Sprints?
- The SkiErg Sprints are a 1000m virtual international race on the Concept2 SkiErg. Ski 1000 metres on any SkiErg and submit your time online.
- Entries must be performed during the race dates, November 9–12, 2023.
- All ages and abilities are encouraged to participate! There are nine age categories for men and women, and adaptive categories, too.
- If your club enters results for 30 or more members, you will be entered into a raffle for a SkiErg and optional Floor Stand. (Void where prohibited.)
If you wish to host a SkiErg Sprints event and encourage your members to participate, see the SkiErg Sprints challenge page for more details. Here’s a snapshot of how it works:
Train: Help your members prepare for the 1000 metre distance on the SkiErg.
Whether you’re participating as an individual or in a club environment, the training is the same. You can follow our 4-Week Training Plan as written or add some of the workouts to your regular programming. The 1000-metre race distance offers a good challenge that is a reasonable training goal for almost everyone. It will most likely take somewhere between three and six minutes to complete. A little training will go a long way towards improving your performance and making the race more enjoyable. Training will also help dial in your optimal pace: fast enough to get you a personal best, but not so fast that you start too hard and “fly and die.”
Race: Hold your SkiErg Sprints event between November 9–12, 2023.
Pick a day between November 9–12 to hold your SkiErg Sprints event. Set up a schedule and invite your members to sign up for time slots. Alternatively, you can invite members to come in any time between November 9–12, check in with a staff member, complete 1000 metres, and make sure their results are recorded.
Submit Results: Send your results to Concept2 by November 13, 2023.
It is important that results are submitted in the proper format, so please use the spreadsheet found here in the Events Results section. It's easy! Results submitted in any other format may not be accepted. Be sure to submit results by November 13, 2023, 22:00 GMT (5 p.m. ET).
The SkiErg motion is easy to master. Our SkiErg technique video demonstrates the technique most closely aligned with the sport of cross-country skiing and offers a great visual of SkiErg technique. If you or your members are brand new to the SkiErg, here's a training plan for beginners.
