Happy 100th Birthday John Hodgson

Everyone at Concept2 would like to wish John a very happy birthday today. Below is a short bio sent to us by John's daughter Valerie:

"I think Dad got his first bike at the age of 15 and from then on took it as an opportunity to exercise and escape from the streets of Leeds where he was born. He was already working in the tailoring industry in Leeds then, he met Mum (Bertha) in 1931, he was 21 she was just 18, after that they never spent time apart.

They married in 1938, then war broke out. He volunteered on the first day but was refused because he was too old! He persevered and was offered administration duties but again refused and his perseverance paid off. He was enlisted in the 8th Army 7th armoured brigade better known as the desert rats under the command of field marshal montgomery, my Dads hero. Their reputation of course is famous and dad was away at one time for 4 years without leave. He came home in 1945 and started work at Joshua Tetleys brewery in leeds. His love of bikes resumed taking Mum & me with him every weekend into the Yorkshire dales, on a tandem, which we did for about 10 years.
