I think they look in the mirror a lot. What motivation, other than overwhelming vanity, would induce an amateur athlete to dope?

I have been as open or more so about my training as anyone in the history of the Forum. And anyone who knows me knows that I am as forthright and honest about my efforts as the day is long.

It was a cheap shot and I continue to find it unfunny. Rather than defend it, you could retract it.

You are making this way to big.
I all my replies I did not attack anyone here on the forum, nobody did.
Dan Staite is (was?) a member of a online team, that's all the connection there was.
What he did had nothing to do with Team oarsome, it was his own doing.
The connection you had with him is the same one I had with him as did any other forummember. More or less zero.

I did not attackt any other member of his team, there was absolute no reason for that. I just made a small joke that did underline my first argument.
If It does touch you I am sorry for that, but you haven,t convinced me that it wrong.

And futhermore I would find It cheap/chicken to retract it, cause I don,t see any harm done. I don,t walk away from my words or deeds.
What I say/write is what I think and stand for.

This isn't going to be overly popular, however.....needs must....

Dan is still a friend of mine and I choose to support him not assassinate his character, he's made a very bad choice and will have to live with it for the rest of his life.

It's ironic that a narcassist should criticise an ego manic :-D and when Phil accused me of taking steroids I seem to recall no-one gave a sh*t....but thats life, and this is the internet where opinions are free (including this one).

it would be more dignified to remove Dan from your lives if you feel that is appropriate rather than parading a superior sense of offence. Cheating happens anywhere there is sport, always has, always will....lets not kid ourselves, we are all agreed that the punishment should be draconian, however it is in the hands of the relevant governing bodies.

He's not going to erg again I would imagine and his road race days are done.....which I suspect will feel like the end of the world, knowing it's self inflicted must sting a bit too.....

Nav, you're classier than to let some crap ill advised joke from Henry offend you....it wasn't mal-intended, just not funny :|

Dan doesn't get my sympathy at all, nor will i defend what he has done, he's f*cked up.....but he was and remains a friend because of his failings, not in spite of them....

I'll get my coat....

I don't recall anyone saying he was clean, there's got to be a fair chance that he wasn't. The point is that in the absence of evidence all you have are assumptions. It's also possible to apply the logic quoted above to anyone accused of anything where there is no proof either way and many lynch mobs have done so.

The way I read it, Henry's ironic comment was a masterful dig at the lynch-mob mentality you warn against.

 - excellent one :-D :-D

Additional. I'd just like to say:
"Dan, you have made a very foolish mistake.
The good memories of your fierce determination & bravery on erg...
...are sadly now irrevocably tainted with dishonour & illegtimacy.
But I hope you come through all of this healthy, clean & wiser"

Mr Barker, I don't ever recall accusing you of drug taking, If I did it would have been in jest. If I did and you took in seriously then I wholeheartedly apologise for saying it. I have never at any point since knowing you thought you would have used any kind of drug.
