No doubt about it, Jono is one of the top sprinters over the shot distances in the country if not the World 8)

I normally sprint at around 48-54spm.

The stroke rate was a bit higher on this one (r52) compared to my first. I was only at r44 on the first attempt, so really tried to make sure the rate stayed up on this one. Drag was 175.

My first few pulls out of the blocks were (from memory) 1:44, 1:22, 1:09, 1:08, then I just tried to settle into pace and hang on. Didn't like the last 100m though

Excellent stuff, JJ 8)
I faded big style today with 80m to go.
I'm considerig having a crack at a 500m PB then (on a different day) switch back to 300m - I figured the 500m might help a bit with the final 100m of the 300m :? :D

Matt,

Out of interest, in the last 100m of the 300m do you find that your rate starts to slow down? That's what would happen to me. All I did was to try and fight what felt natural (ie, letting the rate slip) and keep the rate up, otherwise the tail off would have been more.

Good luck with the 500m!!

Yes - that's more or less what happened- its a weird feeling isn't it :?
At the end I was not especially out of breath either, but in that last 80m the old muscles just didn't want to play ball and I was whimpering like a Chihuahua

Emabarrassingly, a bit later (muscles still bit wobbly) & I struggled to hold on to my protein shaker properly whilst shaking and ended up with loads of vanilla shake on me - I got a few funny looks* I can tell you

* "Oh, its that silly rowing fellow who was making the dog noises - look now he's only gone and thrown up all over himself!" - kind of thing
