School Fete Rowing Competition

School Fete Rowing Competition

Post by deeveewho on 01 Jun 2009, 19:45

Hi
I am looking to use my rower for KS1 and KS2 age children (and maybe adults) at a school fete in 2 weeks for a light competition, and was wondering if anyone has any comparison distances from top sportsmen / footballers / celebs etc in 1 minute times please ?

I heard they did a similar contest at the RYA Dinghy Show though cannot find a decent link to it or the details.

Thanks in advance

We ran a one minute competition at Farnborough. My nine year old son rowed 165m. Sinead (9.5yrs) got 205m. I rowed 302m. Best of the day was Big Trev with 393m.

I've not got all the results and I don't know how representative a sample they are but they should be on http://rowing.dyn-o-saur.com/FARN2009 some time in the very near future.

At the dinghy show the RYA used to have a dinghy simulator where you had to start trapezing on one side, do a couple of tacks including getting out on the wire, then set and stow a spinnaker. It was lots of fun and very bruising. A 1minute rowing piece is probably a bit less bruising than the RYA sim.

Debbie Flood did 331m in a minute. It was on the bbc website. I think Andy Hodge and Zac Purchase did as well.
